Can I Get A Ride To Church? Sorry, I Changed My Mind. Can I Get A Ride To Church?
Hello Everyone,
Our investigator, Robert, called me Sunday morning and asked for a ride to Church. I called and found a member to take him. One hour later Robert called to tell us he changed his mind and wasn't going to go to Church. I called and cancelled his ride to Church. 15 minutes before Church Robert called me again and said he did now want to attend Church and needed a ride. Luckily, the member I called is super cool and flexible and said no problem he'd pick up Robert and take him to Church. Robert did indeed make it to Church and it was a great experience for him. We will follow up with him this week.
We also had a new investigator, Russell, attend Church yesterday. Russell is in his late 50's early 60's and he thinks that if you believe in Christ you will go to heaven. He also believes there isn't only one church you can attend and that going to several churches at the same time is the best idea. He has read many books of scriptures and he is willing to read the Book of Mormon and the King James version of the Bible. The Sacrament Meeting talks were all missionary based and that was wonderful. During Elders Quorum the teacher talked about ministering for a few minutes and then handed out new ministering routes and asked the men to sit and talk to the other men on their list. We could see that Russell felt left out and so we talked with him about scriptures and one of the favorite scripture stories he loves is Enoch. I know that our Enoch story is different from other religions and so I asked him to read about our Enoch and told him it was a heartfelt story that he would be interested in learning.
Transfer news came out and I am getting transferred again. After sitting in Higginsville for 6 months I am now being transferred after one transfer in Parkville. I won't know where I'm heading until Thursday. Should be an interesting 6 weeks.
Today we stopped at an authentic Mexican taco stand and I ate my tacos with the hottest sauce I could stand. It was face melting hot, but it tasted so good until the burn started.
A member of our ward reminded us that his 8 year old daughter was being baptized Saturday and could we have the font filled by 1:00 pm. We got to the stake center and got the font filled and no one was there. We waited for a while and still no Delgado family. I finally called Brother Delgado and told him we were at the stake center and the font was filled and he said, "Oh, sorry, we changed that to next Saturday." We drained the font and left.
I've really enjoyed the families I've met in the Parkville ward. It will be a hard transfer to leave again so quickly. One older sister, Sister Duncan, is from Oxford England and talks with an English accent. She reminds me of my mom's personality and they will need to meet one day. Every Wednesday we do service at Sister Duncan's home and then she feeds us lunch. She has a screened in covered porch where we eat our meal. The stories she has shared and her life experiences are very interesting to listen to. Sister Duncan believes that I served in Parkville at just the right time in my mission. There have been many tender mercies for sure.
The prophet has asked us to study the scriptures and focus on ways we can hear Christ in our lives. As I have been studying Acts and 3 Nephi chapter 11 I love how everything comes together. The story of Peter and John who healed a man at the gate of the temple, and then Peter taught the people who had witnessed the healing. Crippled since birth, this man thanks Peter and John with an embrace. Peter and John offered the lame man something amazing, he just had to reach out in faith and take Peter's hand. All of us need to have this type of faith and take the hand of those who are offering their help, love or service. We can help each other heal and find joy in our lives by heeding Christ and His teachings.
