You’ve Got To Get All Of Your Poles In The Water
Hey Everyone,
New mission change, we can now track 4 hours a week in any area of the mission. I am super happy about this because I think missionary work is so much better when all of your poles are in the water. You can't just sit on a computer and FB find all day long.
Very sad news about our investigators this week. Marsha's husband passed away. It's devastating for her and so we are allowing her time to grieve yet also being there when we can. Kahlan didn't make it to church this week. She is taking it slow and we are still teaching her at the Marr's home. Aletha and John have disappeared. We can not find them or get in contact with them. Harvey, our golden investigator, who wanted to be baptized and loved being taught by us died this week. He had cancer and the chemotherapy treatment killed him. I just can't even express how sad this is. I have to focus on the fact that Harvey will be baptized but in a different way. This seems to happen more than ever expected.
The Concordia Branch members are incredible. They are truly my friends. Being here since September I can tell you what a great branch this is. They love each other. They support each other. They look out for each other. They are a tight knit group. They testify of the Atonement and how it has changed their lives. They are a Zion people who give and show Christ like love every day. They will admit they are not perfect but they are striving to do what's right. So many of them have powerful stories, and they actively work to bring souls unto Christ. I feel the spirit in this branch. Because the branch is so small there is a possibility of it being dissolved and joining a ward. Such good people here.
This week the Marr's held a fireside at their home for the Branch members. The topic was Charity and Love by a woman who is a member and scripture scholar and gives firesides in the area. It was really good and my understanding of Christlike love and charity was expanded.
The branch mission leader took us to a family who is RLDS. We were there for over 2 hours talking with them. They are not interested in becoming members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints but are friends with Brother Lottie so we stuck it out. Even though the RLDS no longer believe in the Book of Mormon this couple still read and believe the Book of Mormon is true.
Training Elder Shaw continues. Slow improvements and we are working on making sure he's up, showered and ready for companionship study. I continue to work with him. Elder Shaw is an incredible piano player and so I've made sure to find a piano for him to enjoy as often as possible.
Today is the last day of my teens, tomorrow I will be 20. I am grateful for the past 19 years and all that my parents have taught me and done for me. I'm grateful for the knowledge and love of my Heavenly Father and HIs son, Jesus Christ. I am grateful to be a missionary at this time and know that I am where I should be, doing what I can to share the message of Jesus Christ to all that I can.
Elder Mortensen
