The Work Moves Forward
Hey Everyone,
Elder Midgley and I just completed our first full week in our new area in the Woodland Ward where we continue to find, teach, and share messages with people we come in contact with.
We are being fed by ward members and we have started our MEMBER MISSION PLANS with each family as we visit them in their homes.
This week a family in the area needed help loading moving boxes onto a truck and we were happy to help. This family was amazing, kind and funny, and because they are members of another faith it made our service more rewarding.
We are focusing our teaching efforts with FRANK, AUGUST, JOHN, SARAH, and MARIA. I am also conversing with people on FB and trying to teach them.
I'm including a picture of an Assassin Bug and a video of Elder Midgley removing an Assassin Bug from our apartment deck with a nerf gun. Assassin Bugs have venom and their bite is painful, and the area around the bite can get red and swollen. There are a lot of interesting bugs here in the mission.
This week as I took some personal study time to read section 122 of the Doctrine and Covenants, I've always enjoyed reading the Lord's message to the Prophet Joseph Smith while a prisoner in Liberty Jail (Missouri). This section is only 9 verses and I recommend every one take a few minutes to read and ponder this message. Every single verse is so powerful and wise and useful. These scriptures can apply to us in many situations we face in our lives. I love verse 2 which reminds us that "the pure in heart, and the wise, and the noble, and the virtuous, shall seek counsel, and authority, and blessings constantly from under thy hand." We can always seek counsel when we need it. We can keep ourselves humble and pure in heart which keeps us prepared to hear counsel and direction. Verse 7 has always been a favorite of mine, towards the end it says: "Know thou, my son, that all these things shall give thee experience, and shall be for thy good." Our experiences, good and bad are still learning and growing experiences. We learn from mistakes, we learn when we've made great choices that end like we would like or even better. Verse 9 tells us to "hold on thy way". I am sure these words brought great comfort to the Prophet Joseph Smith as he sat in Liberty Jail. Heavenly Father loves each of us very much and He wants us to remember His words and to lean on him when we need to. I am grateful that my missionary assignment was to the Missouri Independence Mission. I'm grateful for the Church history that is right here in the area that we are teaching and finding.
