Your Purpose Will Be To Invite!
Hey Everyone,
P-day was moved to today so we could attend a session at the Kansas City Temple this morning. I am grateful for a mission assignment that has allowed me to be near and attend the temple every couple of months. Today was amazing and being with my Zone and my companion in a beautiful, peaceful place is rejuvenating.
Happy belated Mother's Day to all of the women reading this! And, especially to my mom. I'm glad we got to talk on Sunday, and it's always good to hear what my mom has to say. She has always been my biggest and best fan!
My dad reminded me of a very important line in my mission call letter. It says: "Your purpose will be to invite others to come unto Christ..." That's the purpose of a missionary. As you know, we invite, invite, invite all day long. This past week we had many who said they would accept our invitation to attend church on Sunday and guess what? Not one of them showed up! Man, it's hard when they seem committed and say yes but then they don't show! Elder Chavez and I are moving on and will continue to invite, invite, invite! The work will always continue!
We had personal interviews with President Ames this past week and it is always a great experience to meet with him and let him know how much I love serving. He always speaks kind words.
Weather here has been wild lately....fierce winds, heat, humidity, rain, tornados looming nearby...I will experience my first summer during my mission coming up!
Our mission has a new Facebook account called, "Independently Faithful". There is a link to the account on my personal FB account. If you are not following me on Facebook, please friend request me! I'm at Camden Mortensen.
This past Friday instead of our usual Volleyball Night we did service at the local Rodeo. We sold concessions and wore t-shirts. We had exchanges with the AP's so Elder Orton and I spent the day together and then worked the Rodeo with Elder Chavez and the other AP.
We found a lot of people this past week. We were hoping Dee Dee, Lisa, Donald, Wurlene, and Bill would join us on Sunday...you already read how that went.
We had a very less active ward member we've made contact with a few weeks back call us this week and ask us to pick him up and take him to a different Church for a worship service. We told him we can't have anyone in our mission car and we didn't think we could find someone from the ward to take him. We gave him some names to call and hopefully he is happy. Life is a matter of many choices. We choose and we live our lives!
Elder Jeffrey R. Holland always gets me motivated and ready for another week of work and service. Here is a favorite quote of mine from him: "Seek to be personally converted, obey the rules of the mission, strive to have the Spirit of the Lord in your life, and work hard. These are the things every missionary can do. If you do those things, I promise you in the name of the Lord and with the authority of my office, you are a success in his eyes."
