The One Where He Came Out With A Gun In His Hand!
Hey Everyone,
This has been an amazing week and one with a little too much excitement one afternoon. I guess I'll start there...This past week Elder Barney and I were tracting in Darlington and we approached this home and knocked on the door. Nothing happens but we are patient and we stand waiting. After about 3 minutes we decide to move on to the next house and we are on our way there when the door opens to the house we just knocked on. A man is standing there so we run back to the door, filled with the Spirit and ready to share an inspiring message about Jesus Christ, when all of a sudden I see a Beretta handgun in the man's hand. Our steps slow and we hear his thumb draw back the hammer. We freeze. The man asks us "What are you doing?" We tell him we are knocking on doors sharing messages about Jesus Christ. He says, "Don't do that". And then his finger goes to the trigger. We tell him we won't and that we will leave. We bid him a good day and ran back to the car. I felt that we shouldn't continue our tracting in that area and we RED DOT the entire block area. Whew...I know missionaries have scary encounters every day and I had one this week! We are fine and we are grateful!
District Council was amazing this week and it is awesome to be surrounded by the best elders and to learn from them and interact with them. See video and lunch picture below, always a good time.
General Conference was exactly what I needed. I loved every single second of it and I truly was so sad that it ended. Sustaining our leaders, new temples announced, and the love shown towards missionaries serving missions filled my spiritual cup to overflowing! Elder Ballard sharing how missionary service blessed his life is exactly how I feel about my mission, what a blessing! Of course, Elder Holland's talk was one that I really enjoyed because he reminded us to find joy in the gospel daily and then to enjoy those blessings that come from the gospel. My favorite quote from Elder Holland's talk is: "We must commit ourselves fully to that gift of life and run to the aid of those who are at risk of giving up this sacred gift." I could go on with all who shared messages, but I encourage you if you didn't listen to the conference this weekend, please take time to view it online or read the messages, I promise you that your life will be touched by the spirit as you embrace the words that have been spoken.
We did service at the B&B this week continuing to scrape old paint off windows and then cleaning them up. We also helped the Jones family move from one home to another on the same block.
We continue to get fed by our ward members and we spent time at the Rickey's home this weekend as they invited us to watch conference with them.
It's tornado weather here in MO. This week we had several sightings of tornadoes and severe weather and rainstorms. I love the rain and enjoyed a few minutes outside in the rainstorm this week (see picture below).
The best part of the week is that we put two people on date for baptism! LEXI accepted our invitation to be baptized. She is progressing well and has been taught by the Spirit. She reported to us that her desire to drink coffee is gone and she said, "I haven't touched a drop." We had a can of Pero (thanks to the RIckey's) to give her as a grain based alternative but she is feeling confident. I can't help but to say always keep faith in your heart for those learning about the gospel of Jesus Christ. Her baptism date is April 16th, two days after transfers. So, I know that if I am transferred that it is what it is, the good news is that Lexi is baptized. Lexi watched General Conference and really enjoyed the messages.
JOAN also accepted the invitation to be baptized. Her date is April 26th. Elder Hancock and I found her last transfer and Elder Barney and I have been teaching her this transfer. Joan has had the seed planted by other missionaries who served before us and she has had time to read, ponder and think about her decision. The first time we met with her she had read up to 1st Nephi chapter 21. She watched General Conference and loved it also.
We will most likely drop the others in the next few days because of lack of commitment. We will see how Jeannie does this next week and we might have to move on. Sad, but we need to do what we need to do.
