WHAT A WEEK!

Hey Everyone!

This week has been a breeze; it definitely went by faster than all the other weeks. A Lot of great things happened, and some not so great, but overall it was awesome!

I've had such a great time with my trainer and companion, Elder Montoya, and the Hickory Hills Ward Elders Murdock and Mortensen. We've had some super fun times with the rest of the district and zone too, including an inspiring Zone Conference.

This week I was able to experience several amazing things! We've been working hard and it is nice to see that we are making strides here in the Overland Park 1st Ward. The ward members here are incredible and really take care of their missionaries. We've had a lot of great meals from them and we appreciate their missionary efforts so much. A few miracles happened this week! I ended up placing my first Book of Mormon! The story behind that is we went to a cool family in our ward, the Rous family, for dinner and we met a nice woman named Zamo! After dinner we shared a message and talked about prayer. Following that I talked about the Book of Mormon and asked Zamo if she'd like to read the Book of Mormon and she said YES! It was a great feeling to share with her a book that means so much to me.

I was able to give my first priesthood blessing out in the field to a woman in our ward, Sister Whitlow, who was having heart palpitations so we went and I gave her a blessing! I love love love the way the Spirit tells you what you are doing is right. As King Benjamin said: if you are in the service of your fellow being, you are only in the service of your God.

Speaking of Sister Whitlow, we had an almost miracle from visiting her! We went over for dinner, and she wanted us to build a small shelf. When I was building it, I needed a Phillips screwdriver, but she didn't have one, so we asked around and one of her neighbors let us borrow one. After the shelf was finished and we said goodbye to the Whitlow's, we returned the screwdriver and we met the owner who is a single mom named Heather. She has two kids, Gabriel and Ezra. We spent some time talking to her and shared a message. We were able to get her number and also placed a Book of Mormon! Sadly, her conversion was not meant to be as she told us later she was not interested.

Last Saturday our ward held a family carnival at the Church parking lot and we were able to go and help out with the games and talk to the members and visitors.

One of the things we were able to do this week is go to the community park and play Ultimate Frisbee. It's a great way to meet people who live in our neighborhood. I met a guy who is as big a Marvel fan as I am and we had a great conversation about Captain America.

And lastly, we met a new guy named Dwyane. He is very interested in learning about the Gospel of Jesus Christ and he is super nice. We've had to make a few adjustments with how we communicate with him because he doesn't speak very loud so talking on the phone is very difficult.

Right now we are continuing to teach Margaret and she is progressing well and I believe she has so much potential. We had bike problems one day we stopped by to visit, but even with our greasy hands we stood at her doorstep with our smiles on and taught her about Faith. This gospel is amazing! She is scheduled to be baptized next Sunday. We are still trying to reach out to Henser. We hope we can re-establish contact with him soon. We are also teaching Zamo and a guy named Alex.

Our ward set a goal at the beginning of 2021 to have 8 baptisms. Right now there are zero. Elder Montoya and I are working hard to make that zero change. We are praying for all of our investigators and I ask that you also help pray for our EIGHT! #prayforeight! Margaret, Henser, Dwayne, Alex, and Zamo so far!

The work is great! The Gospel of Jesus Christ is TRUE! That's my week!
