Do All Missionaries Eat Raw Turkey?

Image
Hey Everyone, First of all, I want to wish my mom a HAPPY BIRTHDAY today! She's the best mom and I love her very much.  I hope all of you had a great Thanksgiving! We had a fantastic Thanksgiving as a Zone. Each companionship was assigned a few items to bring. We were asked to bring mashed potatoes and drinks. One set of elders brought a RAW turkey. One set of elders brought a turkey with the plastic mesh still on the turkey--yup, I'm not lying. And one set of elders brought a very well done turkey that we all ate from. Haha...good times! I guess you could say this was a side dish type of Thanksgiving. We had permission to watch the Disney movie CARS and it was also the first day we were allowed to listen to Christmas music.  After we ate and cleaned up, three companionships in our district went to a park and we pulled out a folding table and chairs and played UNO for hours. We actually had one UNO game that lasted over 30 minutes. That's the longest game of UNO I've ev...

Cockroaches, Crawlspaces And Cobwebs

Image
Hey Everyone, We had Zone Conference this week where we heard messages on the Book of Mormon, proper authority and baptism. I came away with some good impressions and things to think about.  This week we had a 2 day service project at the Higginsville Train Depot. The train station is now a historical site and museum. The lady we did service for in her yard last week, who isn't a member, works there and asked if we would help out at the Train Station. They wanted help to cover all of the train doors with plastic to keep the draft out so when they worked and gave tours it would be warmer. We agreed to help and on the first day I was on an exchange with Elder Bucheit and we worked for many hours covering doors by stapling on thick plastic. One of the doors continued to have a cold raft after we covered it. The door connected to a crawl space below and they asked me if I could crawl in there and see if there was a hole. I looked in the small crawl space and it was filled with cobwebs....

Service, Transfers, And A Broken Wrist

Image
Hey Everyone, Transfers were this past week and our trio dropped back to a companionship. Elder Paul and I remain here in the Concordia Branch. No, I didn't break my wrist, but here's the story. Today, Elder Paul and I went to the senior center to play pickleball as we usually do on Monday mornings. Today, at the end of the last game an older senior lady tripped and fell and broke her wrist. I called 911 and then got her a chair to sit down on. Then I splinted her arm with a pickleball paddle while we waited for the ambulance. Her name is Marilyn and she could use prayers as she heals. We will follow up this week and check on her. It was a sad way to finish off our game.  We had three different service projects we did this week. I really enjoy being outside working and serving others. This has been one of the greatest parts of my mission. Our first day of service was for a guy who is married to a less active member. He asked that we help him get his yard ready for winter. We wo...

November Rain

Hey Everyone, We had a much better week and found a few people to teach. We met Keith, a grey dot in our area book. We were walking on the other side of the street one afternoon when a guy came out of his home and started yelling at us to come and talk with him. He is a large man and we didn't have time to fully evaluate the situation as we were right there. We didn't feel comfortable approaching him but we still did. After a brief chat we learned that he has met with the missionaries before and he already has a Book of Mormon. We will meet with him again this upcoming week. We also found Kinzer on FB and will continue to teach her. We dropped all of our other investigators.  We found a family who are not interested in being taught but have asked us to help them by doing service in their yard. We have another service appointment for them this week. We also dug a long trench for a member for them to put a drainage pipe in.  We went out with our Branch Mission Leader this week a...
